Kettle & Fire is a San Francisco-based company that is best known for producing a unique shelf-stable beef bone broth. Unlike similar products, the company's broth does not need to be frozen until it is opened, making it the first in the world of its kind.

Background
In 2015, Kettle & Fire was founded by brothers Nick and Justin Mares upon noticing that no non-frozen grass-fed bone broth was available online. The brand, originally named Bone Broths Co, was renamed and designed by Interact Boulder, a branding and packaging agency located in Colorado.
For the innovation of the Kettle & Fire production cycle, Nick Mares received a 2016 Thiel Fellowship, an entrepreneurial fellowship created by Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel that sponsors the ventures of young students, and maintains an acceptance rate below 1%.

Product
Kettle & Fire produces a shelf-stable bone broth. The broth is slow-simmered, and is made from grass-fed and pasture-raised cattle. Kettle & Fire promotes its product as a health food, given its nutritional value and richness in collagen, gelatin, and amino acids.
The broth is packaged using TetraPak technology, which uses aseptic processing, allowing the broth to remain sterile at room temperature without preservatives or additives.
Reception
Kettle & Fire's product is particularly popular among proponents of the Paleolithic diet, stemming from evidence that humans in the Paleolithic era did not experience today's "diseases of civilization", such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Within this lifestyle, bone broth is specifically regarded as an excellent source of gelatin and collagen, two proteins that are uncommon in the average Western diet.
Kettle & Fire deliberately sources its bone samples from the patella and femur, bones which have been shown to have the highest collagen content. This decision has made it favored among individuals and nutritionists both in and out of the Paleo community.
In September 2016, Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya selected Kettle & Fire to be a featured company in the Chobani Food Incubator's first cohort, which seeks to "create the future of food" by supporting nutritious, accessible, and sustainable food sources.
